What kind of usage would be considered as commercial?
The below outlines some examples of commercial use. These apply to all organisations, including charities and non-profits.
- Content for advertising and paid media campaigns, across any channels.
- Content created with the aim of generating income back to the associated organisation, such as a primary ask for audiences to donate, fund or purchase.
- Content that requires payment to view, including content that sits behind a paywall, streaming platform or is part of a ticketed event.
- Documentary or feature film that has been commissioned by a brand, organisation and/or media broadcaster who will profit financially in return.
I have a commercial request. What is the process?
You can browse the commercial library here. Register for a free account and create a collection of clips you would like to use. Share this collection with the All3Media team, clipsales@all3media.com, who will get in touch to discuss further.
How much does it cost to license clips for commercial use?
All commercial enquiries are handled on an individual basis, with rates dependent on the type/volume of material selected and your intended use, as well as the type of organisation or channel it is intended for. Our mission is to support everyone, everywhere, to tell impactful stories, with subsidised rates for NGOs and charities.
Why aren’t all clips from the Open Planet library available for commercial use?
Much of the footage in our library has been kindly donated by our global community of filmmakers and production companies, each with unique rights for wider use. This means that some of our footage is only available for educational and impact use.
Why is the commercial library managed by a different company?
Open Planet is focused on educational and impact storytelling, which often covers different audiences and content requirements to commercial licensing. By partnering with All3Media’s commercial library, we can provide a more holistic approach to supporting our global community of storytellers and communicators, while also leveraging All3Media’s industry expertise and shared efficiencies in digital infrastructure and content management.
Does Open Planet receive money for commercial licensing?
All profits from the commercial sales of Open Planet footage on the All3Media Clip Sales website are reinvested into Open Planet to help deliver our mission and continue to provide free resources for educational and impact use.
Can I contribute footage to your library?
We’ve partnered with over 60 contributors from across the globe and are always on the lookout for credible, high-quality footage of our changing planet. If you are a filmmaker, media company or cinematographer and would like to discuss opportunities to collaborate and donate footage, please get in touch via email: enquiries@openplanet.org. Any contributions can be nominated for educational and impact use only and/or commercial use.
