Synopsis
Cheetahs (Acinonyx jubatus) are the fastest land animals, capable of reaching speeds of up to 70 miles per hour. They primarily inhabit the grasslands and savannas of Africa, playing a vital role in their ecosystems as apex predators. They help regulate prey populations and maintain the overall health and biodiversity of their habitat. Cheetah populations are declining due to habitat loss, poaching, and human-wildlife conflict. They are classified as 'Vulnerable' on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (2021).
