Synopsis

The Gandaki River, also known as the Narayani and the Gandak, is one of the major rivers in Nepal and a left bank tributary of the Ganges in India. Its total catchment area amounts to 46,300 km2 (17,900 sq mi), most of it in Nepal. It is notable for its deep canyon, the Kali Gandaki Gorge, that runs between the peaks of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains. It is one of the deepest gorges in the world, with a depth of over 6,000 meters at its deepest point. The Kali Gandaki River flows through the gorge, which is also a major trade and transportation route between the regions of Mustang and Pokhara.
