Synopsis

The Trift Glacier is a valley glacier formed from several firn pools on the northern flank of the Winterberg massif in the Swiss Alps. The retreat of glaciers since 1850 is well documented and is one of the effects of climate change, with the Trift Glacier itself losing 350m of its total length between 2003 and 2005 alone. The Trift Bridge (Triftbrücke) is a pedestrian-only suspension bridge spanning 170m at a height of 100m over the Triftsee, a lake that formed since 2001 due to the melting of the lower part of the Trift Glacier.
