Synopsis
Soybeans are frequently cultivated crops worldwide and are extensively used as animal feed. Regrettably, soybean production contributes to deforestation, particularly in the Amazon Rainforest, and causes ecological disruption globally. Fava beans, which are high in protein, can serve as a more sustainable substitute and can be cultivated locally, unlike soybeans. Fava beans undergo various processes such as toasting, shelling, and milling to be used for feed. Also, leftover chaff from corn flour is utilised to feed livestock. The decreased reliance on imported soy crops has the potential to play a significant role in reducing deforestation over time.
