It is the state animal of Tamil Nadu.Threatened by habitat loss due to human activities such as deforestation, mining, and construction, Nilgiri tahr can often be seen along the road, amidst heavy traffic, in a narrow and fragmented stretch of 400 km between the Nilgiri Hills and Kanyakumari.
