Synopsis

British explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton visited South Georgia several times during his Antarctic expeditions. His widow chose the island as his final resting place after his death in 1922, and Shackleton was buried at the now-abandoned whaling station of Grytviken. He is famous for his leadership during the failed Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition, where his ship, the Endurance, was trapped in ice and sank in 1915. Despite the adversity, Shackleton and his crew managed to survive and were ultimately rescued. He is celebrated for his courage, endurance, and determination in the face of extreme conditions.
