Synopsis
Kibera’s proximity to local rivers and its low-lying location make the region particularly vulnerable to flooding during heavy rains, which are becoming more frequent due to climate change. The area suffers from poor water quality, lack of sanitation infrastructure and overcrowding. The residents live amongst Nairobi’s storm drainage system which siphons excess water out of the city during heavy rainfall. When the waterways are not cleared of rubbish and waste, the polluted water can flood homes and lead to the spreading of diseases, harming people's health.
