Synopsis

Soybean is one of the most common crops used globally as feed for livestock. The larvae of black soldier flies has been identified as an alternative source of protein to soy for use in animal feed. Eggs laid by the mature black soldier flies can be collected and sold to farmers who can use the fly larvae as an alternative protein source in livestock feed. This reduces the dependency on imported soy crop and eventually play a part in decreasing deforestation.
