Synopsis
Split, located on the eastern shore of the Adriatic Sea, is the second-largest city in Croatia. Known for its rich history, stunning architecture, and beautiful Adriatic coastlines, it is home to Diocletian's Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that makes up half of the old town. In addition to its historical charm, Split serves as a port and gateway to Croatian islands like Hvar and Brac, making it a popular tourist destination. The Cathedral of Saint Domnius, also known as the Split Cathedral, is a city landmark. This iconic structure is situated within Diocletian's Palace and symbolises the city's ancient roots. Originally a mausoleum for Emperor Diocletian, it was transformed into a cathedral in the 7th century. Combining Roman and medieval architectural styles, it features a well-preserved Romanesque bell tower that provides panoramic city views.
