Synopsis

Protected under the UK’s Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981, the Giant Goby (Gobius cobitis) is one of the UK’s rarest marine species - found only in South West England - and spends most of its time hiding in crevices on rocky shores. They have large heads and chunky bodies with salt and pepper speckled colouration. They are also found in the Eastern Atlantic, Mediterranean and Black Sea.Shanny (Lipophrys pholis), commonly known as a common or smooth blenny is a species of combtooth blenny. Found predominately in and around the Atlantic, it can often be found in tidal pools and rockpools in the UK.
