Synopsis
Painted goby (Pomatoschistus pictus) are usually found in coarse sand or gravelly parts of the seabed close to shore, with their blotchy patterns helping them to camouflage. They have been widely studied for their use of sound as they produce bursts of drumming, so males can size each other up or to attract a mate.
