Synopsis

The Spiny squat lobster (Galathea strigosa) look like a cross between a crab and a lobster with a long, flattened body and a tail tucked up underneath, which can be used as a paddle to escape backwards very quickly. They are common around the rocky shores of the UK, North east Atlantic, Mediterranean and Red Seas.Protected under the UK’s Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981, the Giant Goby (Gobius cobitis) is one of the UK’s rarest marine species - found only in South West England - and spends most of its time hiding in crevices on rocky shores. They have large heads and chunky bodies with salt and pepper speckled colouration. They are also found in the Eastern Atlantic, Mediterranean and Black Sea.
