Synopsis
Snakelocks anemones (Anemonia viridis) live attached to rocks in the sunniest pools on the low shore and in shallow seas. They have squat brown bodies and green, snake-like tentacles that give them their name. The tentacles are home to a kind of algae which produces energy from the sun, so they will position themselves in spots that make the most of sunlight, and their sting is used to catch prey. They are found in the eastern Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.
