Synopsis
The peacock worm (Sabella pavonina) is a marine polychaete worm in the family Sabellidae. These worms live in slender tubes that are either buried in mud or attached to rocks and stones. From these tubes, they extend fan-like tentacles to capture particles floating in water currents.Maerl is a purple-pink hard seaweed that forms spiky underwater 'carpets' on the seabed, known as 'maerl beds'.Maerl beds form when calcareous red algae grow into loose nodules or occasional crusts, creating dense yet porous beds of coralline algae.
