Synopsis
Plain zebras (Equus quagga) belong to the horse family and are among the most common and widespread species. They are herbivores found across the grasslands of East Africa and the scrubby woodlands of southern Africa. As of 2016, plain zebras are listed as 'Near Threatened' by the IUCN, primarily due to habitat loss caused by human encroachment, agricultural practices, and livestock grazing.
