Synopsis
The Karoo Heartland in the Eastern Cape of South Africa is made up of picturesque Karoo towns including Graaff-Reinet.Known as the 'gem of the Karoo', Graaff-Reinet was founded in 1786.The Eastern Cape region of South Africa experienced a multi-year drought from 2015 to early 2020. Areas such as Graaff-Reinet were severely impacted, with the Nqweba Dam drying up. This dam supplies water to the town and surrounding areas. The drying up resulted in thousands of dead fish being deposited onto the cracked earth.
