Synopsis
Purple Mountain Saxifrage (Saxifraga oppositifolia) is a mat-forming evergreen perennial.Common in the high Arctic and also some high mountainous areas further south, including northern Britain, the Alps and the Rocky Mountains, it is the most northerly flowering plant in the world and is also found across the northern hemisphere from Canada to Japan. Its native habitats include tundra, arctic coastal bluffs, alpine scree, and rock crevices.
