Synopsis
The Bengal fox (Vulpes bengalensis) is a species of fox native to the Indian subcontinent. It is commonly found in the plains and semi-arid regions of India and Nepal, extending to parts of Pakistan and Bangladesh. The Bengal fox is characterised by its bushy tail, pointed ears, and a coat that ranges from pale brown to gray, which helps it blend into its environment. This fox is a nocturnal animal, typically hunting small mammals, birds, and insects. The Bengal fox plays a vital role in the ecosystem as a predator, helping to control the populations of its prey. Despite facing threats from habitat destruction and hunting, it is not classified as being at risk although continued conservation efforts are essential to ensure its long-term survival.
