Synopsis
The dusky grouper is a predatory fish, found throughout the Mediterranean Sea and the eastern Atlantic, with aggregation sites in the Azores. Their habitats include rocky reefs and sea bottoms. The dusky grouper was classified as 'endangered' in 2015 due to threats from fishing pressures, targeted for their high value. A spearfishing ban has been imposed and Marine Protected Areas have been established to protect their habitat in the Azores.
