Synopsis
The sicklefin devil ray (M. tarapacana) is one of the largest species of mobula ray, reaching up to 3.7 metres in disc width. They are found in temperate, tropical and sub-tropical waters across the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans. Sicklefin devil rays are seasonal visitors to the Azores during the summer months and aggregate around seamounts. The sicklefin devil ray was classified as 'endangered' in 2018 due to the suspected threat of fishing pressures.
