Synopsis

During the 1950s and 1960s, coastal protection projects were undertaken on Kominato beach in Japan. These involved installing large quantities of concrete seawalls and tetrapods.Over time, these publicly-funded, large-scale projects have begun to degrade, hampering both beach access and the local ecosystem.
