Synopsis

Scotland has the highest woodland coverage of the UK countries, and its government is working to ensure that more forests and woodlands are sustainably managed for regeneration – increasing biodiversity and woodland connectivity. Felled trees can be turned into timber for several materials and products such as wood for furniture, and chemicals found in trees are used in medicines. Growing timber can also reduce impacts on forests overseas and reduce emissions for transportation.
