Synopsis
Comb jellies are mostly transparent, gelatinous invertebrates found in various marine environments, including the deep sea. A defining feature of comb jellies is their comb rows—bands of hair-like structures called cilia that run along their bodies. These comb rows are used for movement and create an iridescent effect as light reflects off the cilia. Many types of comb jelly are also capable of bioluminesence, producing light through specialised cells under the comb rows.
