Synopsis
Skid Row sits in the shadow of the financial and theatre districts of Los Angeles. While "Skid Row" commonly refers to any impoverished area where people have "hit the skids," this is a real place mere blocks from downtown LA, and is one of the most visible examples of urban inequality and concentrated poverty in the United States. This roughly 50-block area houses one of the nation's largest stable populations of homeless individuals. The neighbourhood is defined by its dense concentration of homeless shelters, single-room occupancy hotels, and social services, with tent encampments lining the streets.
