Synopsis
Fiddler crabs (Uca) are small semi-terrestrial crustaceans that exhibit sexual dimorphism, with males possessing one particularly distinctive and greatly enlarged claw that can grow to be nearly as large as their entire body. This asymmetrical feature serves important roles in both courtship displays and territorial defense. The name fiddler crab derives from the male's distinctive appearance when feeding, as their movement pattern with the small and large claws working in tandem creates a motion that strongly resembles a musician drawing a bow across a fiddle while holding the instrument.
